Bring out those colored pencils . . .

My card for a friend who recently lost her husband unexpectedly. My first inclination was to color the image with watercolors. My mind was scattered. I decided to rely on my Prismacolor colored pencils. I stamped the image with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. I colored in with my colored pencils. I've always loved how the pencil colors really come out on black paper.

Using an A6 black card, rub your embossing buddy* over the entire surface of the card front. With the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, stamp the floral image with VersaMark watermark ink. Use Stampendous embossing powder in white and heat set. Using Prismacolor colored pencils, use a bright color that will tone down with a lighter shade of the same color and a white colored pencil. Use soft round strokes to avoid any harsh lines as you apply and blend the colors. Place the card front and sentiment stamps back in the stamp platform and stamp with ColorBox pigment ink in Frost White. Using the stamp platform allows you to re-stamp if the words do not stamp evenly and/or if you want a heavier impression. Add a few sequins for added dimension. This particular card measures 6,5" across and 5" down. Using a text weight linen paper, cut it to 9.75" wide and 6.25" long. Fold it in half. Along the fold line, run adhesive on the front side; drop the folded insert (fold side down) into the folded card (fold side down). Before pressing, make sure it is centered and then press along the outside fold line on the front side of the card.

*The embossing buddy frees your card surface from any static electricity that stray embossing powder might go to. Sometimes it's very difficult to brush away those stray bits without compromising your image to be heat embossed. You can "google' or "bing" the term for homemade recipes as well. If you use embossing powders or glitters of any kind, the embossing buddy is a must.

I'm going to do more of this because I love how the colors from pencils look on black card stock. I have other colored pencils I want to try.

Thanks for stopping by. Don't forget . . . bring out those colored pencils!
