Mother's Day Booklet Card

Happy Mother's Day to everyone today. I hope you've enjoyed family and friend time, as well as time spent doing something you really love.

My sister-in-law and her two daughters are very close family, and we enjoyed a family afternoon with them today. Instead of a typical "card" I chose to make card booklets for them. I used heavy card stock and covered each with washi paper, using mitered corner folds; mulberry paper was used as the inside liner to the front and back covers. I used heavy card stock (118#) for the covers under the washi papers. I looked up humorous sayings for Mother's Day and typed them up onto text weight linen paper, using a separate set for each booklet. A Japanese Hole Punch was used to make all of the hole openings for the ribbon stitches.

I cannot tell you how much fund they were to make. I was inspired to make these booklets by a class I took from Sally Penley, an award winning calligraphic artist from Olympia. I used 1/4" silk ribbons to tie the booklets together using a very simple Japanese Stab Binding technique. The titles were made using an alphabet set from Concord & 9th, and stamped with inks from Tsukineko's new VersaFine Clair inks and Delicata Ink. The oval die cuts are from the Memory Box Stitched Oval Layers die set; the top piece was adhered with foam mount tape to add a little dimension.

FINAL SIZE:

Inside Liner Pages to Covers: slightly less the width and depth of the covers

I can't wait to make many more of these booklet cards; they're wonderful and make a unique card. My personal thanks to Sally Penley for teaching us how to make such a quick, simple and easy booklet.

Thanks for stopping in. I look forward to seeing you again soon,
