After an extended absence, I'm back. It's been snowing what seems like forever, and I'm using some of this quiet time to catch up on a massive backlog of cards to make for family and friends. My cousin's birthday was this last Thursday. I wanted to make a card that followed his outdoor activities with a little humor thrown in.
I stamped the forest background onto white card stock using the VersaFine Clair Morning Mist. It was then trimmed down to fit behind the oval frame of the deer. The oval frame is from Memory Box using a dark grey tone card stock, saving only the inside silhouette. I used the die on another piece of lighter grey card stock cut to layer with the oval cut-out on top of the base card (5.0 x 6.5). After die cutting, an embossing folder was used on the frame mat to add texture. The oval silhouette and oval frame were then lined up and attached to the stamped background image. The sentiment was stamped with the same ink as the background onto white card stock; it was then die cut with a PoppyStamps' tag die. When stamping, I masked off the last word on the stamp to replace it with a hand printed "cousin". The "humor" is he's not 29 and I've not seen 110 pounds since I was an older child!

I really like the background stamp design. I had seen Cathy Andronicou's Penny Black blog post using it in black and white; it was quite stunning. I plan on using it a lot more because it can offer you a dramatic effect with little work.
Thanks for stopping by; I promise to post more frequently now. Health issues slowed me down in the latter half of last year; it's all coming back around and I'm feeling a little more normal. Returning to inking, stamping, paper crafting and mixed media is all on the front burner now -- yea!
