Happy Mother's Day

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the women I know, even some "mom" dads. You're a mother, even if you haven't given birth to or adopted a child. It's the family, friends and paw'd loved ones that you nurture each and every day.

I made this card for my granddaughter. She is enjoying her second year of motherhood and she's one of the most loving mommies I'm proud to say. To top off my joy, her little one is the spitting image and character that she was at two.

Ink and Pen by Josephine Kimberling, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Curious Skin card stock, Strathmore, watercolor, Perfect Pearls, Hero Arts, Queen & Co., Prismacolor Colored Pencils, Spellbinders

Inked with Distress Ink onto watercolor card stock. After a few minutes, colored in the petals by working the wet watercolor brush to draw out the color from the stamped ink. The water was mixed with Perfect Pearls for an all-over sheen (see close-up), by spraying the pearlescent water onto my craft mat to create the well of water.

Went over the stems and foliage with Prismacolor colored pencils. Added sentiment with VersaFine.

Used a die-cut frame over the stamped image. Everything then adhered to card base. Droplets added.

What's interesting is the stems and foliage on some of my peony plants have a reddish tint to them. That's exactly what happened when I colored over the pink stamped stems and foliage. Isn't Mother Nature awesome?

I have discovered that if I allow the stamped image to dry overnight, the lines in the stamp are more permanent. In today's project, you can see that the lines were much softer and, in some cases, disappeared somewhat when the watered brush was applied. Consequently, I let the "colored" image sit overnight before I went back in with touch ups for more contrast in some areas with a much drier wet brush and some color picked up from the palette I made. (I rubbed some of the ink pad onto my craft mat and dabbed into that for a "drier" ink application.)
