Magenta Makes Me Smile!

I've taken three wonderful stencil classes today and yesterday. Much to my dismay, I need to do a little more cleaning around my workspace before I can delve back into what I learned from Lynell Harlow, creator and former owner of Dreamweaver Stencils.

I did manage to make a quick card using a floral design and sentiment stamp from Magenta, one of my all-time favorite stamp lines. Magenta also makes template and stencil designs; since I had just taken stencil classes, I decided I should at least continue with an easy stencil technique.

Magenta Style, Memory Box, Tombow Markers, Tsukineko Memento Dye Inks

Magenta:

Iceland Poppy Stamp 14.650.P

Smile 07.5558.E

All Over Rectangles Template TM165

Memory Box Stitched Rectangle Layers 30009

Tombow Markers

Tsukineko Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black and Summer Sky

Ink Dauber

Conqueror 118# heavy card stock in Diamond White (base A2 card)

100# White Card Stock (stamped panel)

Black 65# card stock (frame die)

Bazzill Marble heavy card stock in red (frame die)

Sizzix Big Shot Express Die Cutting Machine

Place the template (aka stencil) over the 100# white card stock and apply the Summer Sky Memento ink with an ink dauber. Heat set the ink. Stamp the floral design using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and heat set. Heat setting the water-based dye inks allows you to use more water-based color mediums without the ink reacting to the water and bleeding. Color the stamped image with Tombow water-based markers. using two tones (light and dark) of each color. (Color the entire piece with the lightest tone; emphasize shading and depth with the darker tone; go back with the lighter tone to blend the colors.) There will be "naturally" dark areas in the colors because of the underlying stencil design, which I liked. Stamp the sentiment with the Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

Cut the black card stock to the size of the largest rectangle layer using your favorite die cutting machine. Place the rectangular die layer two sizes down in the center and run through the machine. Take the red card stock, using the largest rectangular die and the next size down nested inside, and run through the die cutting machine. Apply 1/8" scor-tape along the outside edge of the black die cut. Then carefully place the red die cut on top of the black die cut. Align the stamp design inside the frame and cut away the outside edges to fit inside the frame; adhere with the scor-tape. Adhere the entire framed panel to the base card.

For Magenta fans, Helene Metivier will be teaching two classes at Art 'n Soul in Lacey, WA on May 21 and 22. Call the store for more information (360.357.6528).

Thank you for your visit. It's always appreciated!
